Info on Classic Car Club of America

A passion for pre-war era cars called for an organization and the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) stepped into the breach. Founded in 1952, the organization set about standardizing the criteria for such old and classic vehicles and helped in bringing together proud owners who wanted to share their hobby. Such classic cars tend to have an expensive price tag on them when are originally put in the market. This is because the numbers produced are usually limited. They combine a distinguished style and performance on the road.

There are quite strict rules governing the acceptance into the Classic Car Club of America. American and foreign manufactured cars are eligible and they must have been produced between 1925 and 1948. Often a car classed as classic will have custom coachwork or luxury accessories. It may have a power clutch, an automatic lubrication system, or power brakes. Cars which were constructed between 1942 and 1948, are only eligible if they are virtually the same as the equivalent pre-war models. The same criteria applies to cars from before 1925.

The enthusiasm for collecting classic cars is just as strong in the United States today, and there are many classic cars for sale on the web and throughout the country. If you’ve ever had an interest in this, there’s plenty of information to be found online!

Some car owners enjoy entering into competitions for their pride and joy. The Classic Car Club of America organizes championships across America during the summer. Some owners prefer not to enter competitively but go to the shows just to exhibit their car. It’s an opportunity to swap stories, find out about other models and get feedback on your own car. Rules for competition must be followed. It is permissible to alter a vehicle for the purpose of safety. The Classic Car Club of America also runs long distance driving tours. This is a chance to put the car through its paces. Some of the events involve covering distances of more than 1,000 miles and can last for weeks.

Annual Meetings are held, when members get together and enjoy a social occasion. The 2009 Classic Car Club of America’s Annual Meeting was held in January in Cincinnati wherein a riverboat cruise and dinner was organized.

The range of models accepted into the CCCA is diverse but they all have impressive pedigrees. British classics are known for their elegance and they include the most luxurious car in the world, the Rolls-Royce. Jaguar and Bentley are also represented. Italian flair is there too, with Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, and Maserati. German performance is evident with Mercedes-Benz and BMW. American classic cars are popular too, including Cadillac, Chrysler, Buick and Lincoln.

The club also has its own museum which is a great asset and a fun day out for the public. The Classic Car Club of America Museum is at the Gilmore Car Museum at Hickory Corners in Michigan and is open from May through October. Members have donated their own vehicles and there are currently 240 automobiles along with a collection of 675 hood ornaments. The grounds also contain a restored diner, a replica 1930s service station and a train station. The library contains books, magazines and documents relating to the classic automobile industry.
A sure treat to watch!
